Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs have decided to sell £27m international this month

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have decided to sell Steven Bergwijn this month.

The Dutch winger joined Tottenham from Ajax in January 2020 in a £27million deal from PSV Eindhoven (BBC) and began his career in North London in the best possible way when he scored a brilliant match-winning volley against Manchester City.

Romano took to Twitter to reveal there is interest from a number of clubs in the 24-year-old with Ajax having already made an offer to take him back to the Eredivisie on a permanent basis, however, a deal has not been agreed.

Ajax boss Erik Ten Haag admitted during a press conference in August that Bergwijn would fit the profile of the type of player which he is looking to bring to the Dutch champions.

When Nuno Espirito Santo came in, he picked Bergwijn for his first three league games and then reverted back to what Mourinho decided; a front three of Lucas Moura, Heung-min Son and Harry Kane.

Unfortunately Bergwijn’s Spurs career has been marred by niggling injuries which have hampered his chance to try and hold down a regular place in the side.
