Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs have ‘very good relationship’ with centre-back’s agent

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have a very good relationship with the representatives of Piero Hincapie but added that signing the Bayer Leverkusen star in January would not be easy for the North London club.

Despite Tottenham’s recent defensive woes, Antonio Conte insisted on Monday that the club do not need reinforcements at centre-back during January (Football.London).

Alasdair Gold subsequently reported in his column for Football.London on Thursday that Spurs are prioritising strengthening up front and at right wing-back next month, with the club likely to invest at centre-back only during next summer’s transfer window.

However, over recent days, the reports linking Hincapie with a move to the Lilywhites have intensified. Italian journalist Marco Conterio reported on Thursday that Antonio Conte has asked the Spurs hierarchy to snap up the Leverkusen star.

TMW subsequently claimed on Friday that Tottenham are ‘studying the possibility of making an offer’ for the 20-year-old but added that it is unclear whether the Premier League club are eyeing a January deal or one for next summer.

Romano has now confirmed that Hincapie is indeed on Spurs’ radar but played down the possibility of the centre-back making a switch in January.

The journalist told the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel: “[Piero] Hincapie is appreciated [by Tottenham], it’s true. Bayer Leverkusen want to keep all their players until the end of the season and then sell in the summer.

“This is why it’s not going to be easy to negotiate and [it] has to be an important proposal. I’m told that Tottenham have a very good relationship with the agents of the player, of people representing the player.”

We know that Paratici likes to identify multiple targets for each position. So, it is likely that the likes of Hincapie and Evan N’Dicka have been picked out as potential alternatives by the Spurs managing director if a deal for Alessandro Bastoni does not materialise next summer.
