Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs-linked centre-back ‘could be an option for Arsenal’

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal could make a move for Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres if they lose one of their current stars.

Torres was one of several left-sided centre-backs who was reported to be on Tottenham’s radar earlier this summer (Football.London) but Antonio Conte’s men eventually snapped up Clement Lenglet, who joined the club on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

However, reports indicate that Spurs wish to sign another central defender before the transfer window closes (Evening Standard).

It was claimed by talkSPORT earlier this month that the Lilywhites could move on Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon, and make a move for Torres before the window closes.

The report suggested that Tottenham were in the process of raising funds for their pursuit of the 25-year-old by moving on some of their deadwood.

Romano has now stated that the Lilywhites could face competition from their North London rivals for the Spain international’s signature. He explained that the Gunners could make a move for the Villarreal star if they lose Gabriel Magalhaes this summer.

Romano said on Here We Go podcast (episode 113): “Many, many clubs are in for Gabriel Magalhaes. It’s not going to be an easy one because Arsenal have no intention of selling him.

“But many clubs are tracking this deal. And let’s see what happens with Arsenal for Pau Torres, in case some top club will arrive for Gabriel. He could be an option for Arsenal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Tottenham do move on both Rodon and Tanganga, which looks likely, I would expect the club to sign a right-sided centre-back rather than a left-sided one.

So, I do not think a move for Torres is on the cards this summer. Besides, if Conte really rated the Villarreal star, we would have pursued him over Lenglet.
