Fabrizio Romano confident reported Spurs target will transfer this summer

Fabrizio Romano has said that rumoured Tottenham target Gianluca Scamacca will leave Sassuolo this summer despite recently signing a new contract with the Serie A club.

Scamacca has impressed after returning from his loan spell at Genoa last season, with the striker having found the back of the net 13 times in 32 Serie A appearances so far (Transfermarkt).

The Daily Express previously revealed that the Sassuolo star was ‘appreciated’ by Spurs managing director of football Fabio Paratici and is ‘one to keep an eye on’ for Tottenham during the summer transfer window.

Antonio Conte’s men are alleged to be facing competition from Newcastle and Manchester United for the 23-year-old (Alfredo Pedulla).

Sassuolo confirmed earlier this month that Italy international had signed a contract extension with the club until 2026.

Romano has now insisted that the contract extension was just to enable the club to get a decent fee for Scamacca this summer.

However, the journalist added that he expects the striker to remain in the Serie A next season.

He told Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “Yes, yes, he (Scamacca) will leave Sassuolo. He extended the contract a few days ago but he will leave Sassuolo.

“It was an extension to allow a potential loan with obligation to buy clause. So that’s why he extended the contract, and yes, there are many clubs interested in him.

“In January Borussia Dortmund were asking about him. There are many clubs interested. But my feeling is that he’ll stay in Italy, Serie A, Inter or some other Italian club.”

I do not think Scamacca will be keen on moving to Spurs as he would not be guaranteed regular game time in North London. However, the 23-year-old joining Inter could be advantageous for Tottenham as that could allow the North London club to swoop for Lautaro Martinez.
