Fabrizio Romano confirms Spurs defender has reached ‘full agreement’ over exit

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Rennes have reached a full agreement with Tottenham to sign defender Joe Rodon on loan for the season.

The transfer guru has confirmed the both sides are working on the final details for the move, which will see the Ligue 1 side hold an option to buy clause worth €20 million (£16.7m).

The deal could also see Spurs make a profit on Rodon, 24, who was signed from Swansea two years ago for a fee of £11 million plus add-ons (BBC Sport).

Rodon struggled to push for a regular starting spot throughout his time in north London and was used sparingly by Antonio Conte in the previous campaign.

His place in the squad was threatened further by the recent arrival of Clement Lenglet from Barcelona, who has strengthened Conte’s options in central defence.

Rodon had featured for Spurs during their pre-season preparations and did not travel to Israel for the club’s final friendly of the summer against Roma (Alasdair Gold).

This seems to be a pretty good move for everyone involved. Spurs could make a profit on Rodon if all things go well, while the defender will be able to get himself some much-needed game time elsewhere.
