Fabrizio Romano does not expect Tottenham to sell 25-year-old this year

Fabrizio Romano is ‘sure’ that Tottenham Hotspur will hang on to Richarlison despite the Brazilian’s struggles so far this season.

Richarlison has found the back of the net just twice in all competitions so far, with both goals coming in his Champions League debut for the Lilywhites against Marseille at the start of September.

The 25-year-old has been hampered by multiple injuries and has played out of position on many occasions but Antonio Conte and his coaching staff would still have expected a lot more from the forward.

On the back of his disappointing showing against Sheffield United on Wednesday, Jamie O’Hara declared that the forward has not proven to be worth the £60m Spurs paid for him (talkSPORT1 at 1 March, 11.30).

He was then only handed a five-minute cameo against Wolves this weekend, despite Spurs struggling in the forward department once again.

However, Romano believes that despite Richarlison’s difficult start to life at Spurs, the North London club will not let the forward go anywhere.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Richarlison has endured a difficult start at Tottenham, so what next for the Brazilian?

“To be fair on him, it’s not easy to join Tottenham and Conte and have an impact immediately, sometimes in football you need time to adapt to new system, new coach, new club.

“I’m sure they will try to protect Richarlison this summer and the investment they did to sign him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Any suggestion of Tottenham cutting their losses on Richarlison is extremely premature.

The striker is proven in the Premier League and he has shown time and again for Brazil that he is top-class talent.

I have no doubt that he will prove to be a success at Spurs over the long run.
