Fabrizio Romano explains how Man City could scupper Spurs’ Pedro Porro pursuit

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City have a buy-back clause for Tottenham Hotspur target Pedro Porro.

Spurs are expected to prioritise strengthening at right wing-back in January (90 min), with reports over recent weeks stating that Porro is one of the names on the North London club’s radar (Jornal de Noticias).

Correio da Manha (10/12/22 via Sport Witness) claimed last week that Antonio Conte’s men are ‘preparing to formalise’ an offer for the Sporting Lisbon star.

O Jogo (12/12/22 via Sport Witness) subsequently suggested that the Lilywhites face competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona for the 23-year-old, and could thus be prepared to accelerate their approach for the player in the coming days.

Romano has now revealed that City are also monitoring Porro’s situation and they have an advantage since they have inserted a buy-back clause of €20m (£17.2m) in the player’s contract during his switch to Lisbon.

The journalist also confirmed that Fabio Paratici has followed Spaniard’s development for a long time.

When asked about the speculation about the Sporting star’s future, he told CaughtOffside: “Links are normal as Tottenham have sent their scouts many times to follow Porro, he’s a player who Fabio Paratici knows very well since long time.

“At the moment there are still no direct talks, so not an easy one – also because Manchester City have €20m buy-back clause and so they can control the situation.”

With Kyle Walker now entering the latter stages of his career, one would expect Manchester City to sign another right-back sooner rather than later. It would not surprise me if they activate Porro’s buy-back clause as the 23-year-old will fit very well into Pep Guardiola’s set-up.
