Fabrizio Romano has played down the speculation linking Memphis Depay with a move to Tottenham in January, remarking that there is ‘nothing concrete’ in the rumours.
There has been a lot written about Depay’s future over recent weeks, which is not surprising considering that the striker’s current deal at Barcelona runs out next summer (Transfermarkt).
Tottenham have been named as a potential destination for the Netherlands international, with 90 min reporting last month that the 28-year-old is one of the forwards on Antonio Conte’s radar ahead of January.
However, over recent weeks, multiple publications have suggested that Depay is unlikely to leave Barcelona next month.
Mundo Deportivo claimed a couple of weeks ago that the former Manchester United man wants to remain at the Catalan club until the summer.
This was backed up by Sport, who reported a few days ago that the forward would prefer to leave as a free agent at the end of the season so that he can get a lucrative contract at his next club.
Romano has now revealed that things are ‘calm’ around Depay for the moment.
When asked about Spurs’ rumoured pursuit of the Barca star, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “At the moment, from what I’m told, there are many rumours but nothing concrete, not with Tottenham or with any other club. Everything is so calm around Memphis Depay.”

I do not think Conte will be particularly keen on singing a player of Depay’s profile either in January or next summer as he already has two top-class centre-forwards at his disposal in Kane and Richarlison. I can see the Barcelona star ending up at Man Utd or Chelsea since both those clubs urgently need a number nine.
