Fabrizio Romano gives update on Tottenham’s Alvaro Morata pursuit

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have received a blow in their pursuit of Alvaro Morata, with the Atletico Madrid striker now set to stay at Juventus until the summer.

Morata is currently on loan at the Allianz Stadium but some sources suggested the Spaniard was surplus to requirements for the Serie A giants after their capture of Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina (TEAMtalk).

The Daily Mirror claimed on Sunday that Spurs could try and swoop for the former Chelsea man on transfer deadline day after sealing the captures of Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancour.

The publication stated that Atletico were not willing to loan Morata to rivals Barcelona, and the door could thus open for Spurs to snap up the striker.

However, Romano has now revealed that Morata will remain at Juventus for the remainder of the season after Massimiliano Allegri decided that he wants to pair the 29-year-old with Vlahovic upfront.

I never really thought we stood a chance of snapping up Morata before the transfer deadline. Even if we were interested and Juve had been willing to cut short his loan spell, the Spaniard would have likely not wanted to come to Spurs and be a backup to Kane.
