Fabrizio Romano names 22-year-old centre-back Spurs have their eye on

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan.

Simakan was first mooted as a target for Spurs more than two years ago, with RMC Sport reporting back in the summer of 2020 that the North London club were looking to snap up the youngster after his breakthrough season at Strasbourg.

The 22-year-old’s stock has grown substantially since, with the defender emerging as one of the most consistent defenders in the Bundesliga since his move to Leipzig a year and a half ago.

Romano has now revealed on his YouTube channel Simakan is now attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain as well as several clubs in the Premier League.

The journalist explains that Tottenham tried to sign the Frenchman this summer but Leipzig’s big price tag and their resolve to hold on to him meant that the club’s pursuit proved unsuccessful.

Romano also adds that Spurs have sent their scouts to Germany to watch Simakan on multiple occasions.

Spurs Web Opinion

Simakan would be a natural fit for the right centre-back role in Conte’s back three. So, one can understand why he would be on Tottenham’s radar.

We certainly need to upgrade in this position as Sanchez has shown that he cannot be relied upon, even as a back up, and moving Dier to that unfamiliar role in Romero’s absence, has cost us over recent weeks.
