Fabrizio Romano names ‘favourite candidate’ to replace Stellini at Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Ryan Mason would be the favourite candidate to become Tottenham’s new interim head coach if Cristian Stellini is sacked.

This comes after Spurs fell to an embarrassing 6-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United this weekend, conceding five within the first 20 minutes of the game after Stellini switched to a back four.

Ryan Mason has led Tottenham out as head coach before when he steadied the ship after Jose Mourinho’s sacking back in 2021.

In fact, he even managed his boyhood club in the Carabao Cup Final defeat to Manchester City that season, less than a week after taking charge of the team.

Some Spurs fans may be questioning why Mason wasn’t reinstated as interim head coach this time around, with Daniel Levy preferring to hand the job to Antonio Conte’s number two.

Spurs Web Opinion:

In hindsight, the job should have gone to Ryan Mason when Conte left. I had hoped to see Stellini make some meaningful changes in the early weeks, but he carried on with Conte’s philosophy and has been left scrambling ever since.
