Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Antonio Conte wants reinforcements in central midfield and central defence during the January transfer window.
Spurs bulked up their squad considerably during the summer by bringing seven new players through the door, including Destiny Udogie, who was loaned back to Udinese.
However, Tottenham’s squad was extremely stretched during October and the start of November owing to injuries, perhaps highlighting that more reinforcements are needed in order to compete with the very best.
The Evening Standard reported last month that Spurs are willing to loan out Bryan Gil, Pape Matar Sarr and Japhet Tanganga in January, with Conte alleged to have asked for direct, readymade replacements for all three players.
Meanwhile, 90min suggested a couple of weeks ago that the North London club are after a right wing-back and an attacker in January.
However, Romano has now said that the Lilywhites are expected to prioritise additions in the middle of the park and at the centre-back.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Conte wants new players, at least one or two signings in January. And so, I would say that a central midfielder and a centre-back are the two key positions for Tottenham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham’s pursuit of a right wing-back will likely depend on whether Conte decides to keep Spence or loan him out in January.
I believe that Spurs are guaranteed to sign an attacker to replace Bryan Gil, who will likely be loaned out. I can also see Conte prioritising a backup right-sided centre-back to potentially replace Sanchez and Tanganga.
