Fabrizio Romano offers Spurs hope in rumoured pursuit of 29-year-old star

In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Hakim Ziyech, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that AC Milan have not held any talks with Chelsea over a January deal for the winger.

Spurs reportedly made an effort to sign Ziyech during the latter stages of the summer transfer window (The Times) but the winger stayed put at Stamford Bridge.

The 29-year-old has found game time hard to come by at the West London club this season and some reports have backed Tottenham to reignite their interest in the player in January.

Todo Fichajes even asserted a couple of months ago that Spurs were willing to pay £20m for Ziyech in January while CalcioMercato subsequently revealed that the Moroccan was also on AC Milan’s radar.

It looked like Spurs had fallen behind in the race for the Chelsea star when Gazzetta dello Sport reported a few days ago that the Rossoneri were ready to launch an opening offer for the attacker.

The report alleged that Stefano Pioli’s men were expected to make a loan offer for Ziyech with an option to make the deal permanent for €15m (£12.9m) next summer.

However, Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Milan have not held talks with Chelsea regarding the former Ajax man since the summer. The journalist added that the winger’s future remains open ahead of the January transfer window.

I do not think Tottenham stand much of a chance of signing Ziyech as the Moroccan will likely want to move to a club where he is guaranteed regular game time. That might perhaps be why Spurs’ pursuit of the 29-year-old fell through back in the summer.
