Fabrizio Romano provides clarity on Sergio Ramos to Spurs rumours

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has played down speculation linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Sergio Ramos.

The Evening Standard claimed that Jose Mourinho was monitoring the central defender’s contract situation at Real Madrid, with his current deal set to expire this summer.

The Spanish defender worked under Jose Mourinho at Madrid for three seasons between 2010 and 2013, and is able to talk to foreign clubs during the current transfer window.

Ramos’ former Real Madrid team-mate Sergio Reguilon admitted that he expects to see the 34-year-old to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu but did reveal he had spoken to the defender about Tottenham (AS).

Romano revealed during his appearance on The Last Word on Spurs podcast (14/01 – 28:14) that there is no substance in the speculation linking Ramos with a move to Tottenham with the player’s preference to extend his stay at the La Liga champions.

The journalist claimed that Ramos is still in negotiations over a contract extension and wants a two-year deal, while the club are currently offering a one-year contract.
