Fabrizio Romano provides Ollie Watkins update after Spurs and Arsenal links

In what comes as a potential boost to Tottenham, Fabrizio Romano has denied that Bayern Munich have made a move for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, who is rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar.

Watkins had arrived at Villa Park from Brentford with a big reputation back in 2020 but after a decent start to his career in the Midlands, the striker’s form had tailed off a bit.

However, the centre-forward has been on fire in front of goal since Unai Emery’s arrival, with most of his 14 Premier League goals this season coming over the last few months (Transfermarkt).

TEAMtalk reported two weeks ago that Watkins’ impressive form had caught the attention of Tottenham, Arsenal, and Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report explained that while the 27-year-old was considering his options, he was leaning towards staying at Villa Park as he believed the club were moving in the right direction under Emery.

It subsequently emerged a couple of days ago that Watkins was also a target for Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga giants were willing to pay £60m to land the striker (The Sun).

However, Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Thomas Tuchel’s men are not working on a deal to sign the England international at the moment.

He also revealed that Villa plan on offering Watkins a new deal soon with an improved salary to ward off interest.

Villa look like they might qualify for Europe next season, which is why I think Watkins would be tempted to stay.

The 27-year-old might not want to risk moving to a club like Spurs, Newcastle or Arsenal, where he would not be a guaranteed starter.
