Fabrizio Romano provides update on Ansu Fati amidst Spurs and Arsenal links

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Barcelona ‘trust’ rumoured Tottenham target Ansu Fati to turn his form around.

There has been plenty of speculation over Fati’s future over the last few days, with Tottenham being named by multiple outlets as a potential destination for the 20-year-old.

Mundo Deportivo claimed a couple of days ago that Spurs are one of the clubs who are monitoring the forward’s future, explaining that Bayern Munich were the ones who had made the most enquiries about the player.

This was followed by a report in the print edition of La Vanguardia (08/02/23 via Sport Witness) which suggested that Spurs could battle Arsenal for the Spain international’s signature in the summer.

Catalan outlet ARA subsequently revealed on Wednesday that Barcelona might reluctantly decide to sell Fati in the summer in order to bring in some much-need funds.

Romano has now said that while Xavi Hernandez’s men still have trust in the La Masia graduate, the situation could change in the summer.

When asked about the speculation over Fati’s future, the journalist told CaughtOffside: “My understanding is Barcelona insists they want to trust Fati for the present and future, but it’s one of the situations to watch in the summer because they also have to make money and improve the salaries situation.”

Barcelona not only have to reduce their wage bill but they likely have to sell players in order to buy next summer, which is why there is a good chance Fati will be sold if he does not play himself into the starting eleven over the next few months.

However, the 20-year-old certainly will not come cheap, with his current contract at Camp Nou running until 2027.
