Fabrizio Romano provides update on Christian Eriksen Spurs return rumours

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Christian Eriksen will speak to Brentford first this summer before considering a potential return to Tottenham.

Eriksen’s impressive performances for club and country since his return to competitive action have reportedly caught Tottenham’s eye, with the club said to be contemplating bringing the midfielder back to North London in the summer (The Daily Mail).

According to Football Insider, the Denmark international would be open to a sensational return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Newcastle United are also said to be keen on snapping up the 30-year-old when his six-month contract with Brentford ends this summer, with the Magpies said to be willing to match or better any contract offer from a Premier League rival (The Northern Echo).

Romano has now revealed that Antonio Conte is open to reuniting with Eriksen at Spurs but added that the Dane will meet with the Bees before considering any contract offer from the Lilywhites.

The journalist said on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast (19/04/22): “We have heard of rumours about Eriksen and Tottenham in the last few days.

“The answer I’m always receiving from Eriksen’s side, is that he is not deciding now or in May – he wants to wait until the end of the season.

“He will meet and speak to Brentford. That is his priority, a matter of respect. We have rumours of Tottenham, because of his relationship with Conte. It is something Tottenham would consider after he meets Brentford.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Brentford have shown faith in Eriksen during a difficult period of his life, it would not surprise me if the 30-year-old feels a sense of loyalty to Thomas Frank’s men.

I would love to have the Dane back at Tottenham but I would not be surprised if he decides to sign a long-term deal with the Bees.
