Fabrizio Romano provides update on future of Mauricio Pochettino amid Spurs links

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to return to management but admitted that he has not heard anything regarding an approach from Chelsea for the former Spurs boss.

Amidst the uncertainty over Antonio Conte’s future at Tottenham, the possibility of Pochettino completing a fairytale return to the club has been discussed over the last couple of months (Daily Mail).

The 50-year-old, who spent five and a half years at the helm at Spurs, has been without work since parting ways with Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

90 min reported on Tuesday that Chelsea had made contact with the Argentine about replacing Graham Potter at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

However, the publication asserted that Pochettino had turned down the Blues’ advances since the job did not ‘tick all the boxes’ for him.

Romano has now revealed that the former Tottenham manager is keeping his options open but he added that he has not heard about any fresh approach from Chelsea.

The journalist told CaughtOffSide’s Substack: “I’m not aware of any contact between Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino.

“Chelsea were in contact with Pochettino last year when they sacked Thomas Tuchel, but I’m not aware of any fresh contact right now.

“Pochettino wants to return to management and is open to all the options. Pochettino has been unemployed since being sacked by PSG.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Perhaps it is wishful thinking to expect that Pochettino to turn down Chelsea’s approach to wait for Spurs, just in case Conte leaves at the end of the season.

At the very least, one would expect the Argentine to seriously consider any offer from the Blues, which is why I am sceptical about 90 min’s report that the 50-year-old turned down Chelsea’s advances.
