Fabrizio Romano provides update on future of Spurs-linked PL midfielder

Chelsea are no closer to agreeing on a new contract with N’Golo Kante, who has also recently been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to confirm there is a big chance that the midfielder could depart Stamford Bridge next summer as things stand, despite the fact that he would like to stay at the club.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is reportedly a big fan of the former Leicester City player, having signed him during his stint in charge at Chelsea back in 2016.

FootMercato reported in October that Kante had been ‘offered’ to both Spurs and north London rivals Arsenal amid uncertainty over his long-term future.

Kante has featured in only two Premier League games and played a total of 175 minutes this season (transfermarkt).

Kante is a brilliant player on his day, however, his injury problems this season have been a concern. He would likely want to command a hefty payday in what could be his last big contract at 31, and Spurs will not want to be paying out on a player who is spending considerable time on the sidelines.
