Fabrizio Romano provides update on Pau Torres race – Three PL clubs named

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all interested in Villareal centre-bak Pau Torres, who is also reported to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Tottenham have been backed to make another approach for Torres after failing to get a deal for the centre-back over the line last summer, with the North London club reportedly willing to use Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in the deal (Football Insider).

Manchester Evening News reported last week that Man Utd are also set to enter the race for the Villarreal defender when the transfer window opens.

La Razon subsequently claimed Spurs and the Red Devils were battling it out for the centre-back’s signature, and added that the La Liga club would be willing to cash in on the defender.

Romano has now revealed that Man City and Chelsea also have their eyes on Torres, with the Blues said to have sent scouts to run the rule over the 25-year-old.

He added that the Spain international’s release clause of around €60m (£50.7m) will become active this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Torres is a top player but I have my doubts over whether it would be worth paying £50m for him. The 25-year-old might not turn out to be a great fit for the Premier League.

For the reported amount, Spurs should be able to snap up Alessandro Bastoni, who has just two years left on his contract with Inter (Transfermarkt).
