Fabrizio Romano provides update on Spurs’ interest in Erik ten Hag

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have scheduled a direct meeting with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag over the possibility of taking over in North London.

Romano claimed that ten Hag, who is out of contract with the Dutch giants in the summer of 2022 (BBC) is open to leaving his current job in the summer.

Tottenham were said to be keen on RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann but missed out on the 33-year-old after it was confirmed that he would be succeeding Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich in the summer.

The North Londoners are reported to have a number of candidates on their shortlist which includes ten Hag, Ralf Rangnick, Gareth Southgate and Roberto Martinez (Telegraph).

Alasdair Gold revealed yesterday that Tottenham hope to announce who will succeed Jose Mourinho as head coach by the end of the season.

Spurs appointed Ryan Mason as interim head coach until the end of the current campaign with the 29-year-old having managed his side to one victory and a defeat.
