Fabrizio Romano provides update on Tanguy Ndombele rumour

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are not considering using Tanguy Ndombele as a makeweight in a deal to bring Houssem Aouar to Tottenham.

Aouar is rumoured to be on the radars of both Tottenham and Arsenal this transfer window.

ESPN reported on Friday that Tottenham had offered Lyon the chance to re-sign Ndombele in exchange for the 23-year-old.

The report explained that Lyon were keen to cash in on the midfielder but had not responded formally to Spurs’ proposal of swapping him for Ndombele, who the Lilywhites bought from the Ligue 1 club for a club-record £55m fee back in 2019.

However, other sources have since ruled out the possibility of the Spurs man rejoining Lyon this summer.

Romano has now become the latest journalist to rubbish the rumours, suggesting that the Lilywhites are not planning to use the 24-year-old as a part of any swap deal.

When asked if there is any truth behind the suggestions of a Ndombele-Aouar swap, the journalist said on Matt Hayes’s YouTube channel: “No, I am told no.

“The player is not considering to be included in any swap deal and not coming back to Lyon. I also heard this rumour.”

This proposed swap deal never made sense to begin with as one would assume Ndombele would be valued higher than Aouar would be, due to the latter’s contract situation. So, Lyon would have likely had to pay cash on top of Aouar to re-sign the 24-year-old.
