Fabrizio Romano has revealed Tottenham are continuing to pursue Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni but negotiations are not currently at an advanced stage.

Italy international Bastoni has emerged as a top target for Spurs in recent weeks as Antonio Conte (Football Insider) continues to strengthen his squad after bringing in free agent Ivan Perisic.

The 23-year-old has been valued at over £50 million by Inter, but is thought to be keen on remaining with the Serie A giants and would need to be convinced of any exit (Evening Standard).

Transfer guru Romano has now provided an update on Tottenham’s chase and while highlighting Conte’s desire to be reunited with Bastoni, the Premier League side have reportedly not yet made an official offer to Inter.

Romano told Chris Cowlin: “For sure, Tottenham are exploring this possibility. Alessandro Bastoni is a player that Antonio Conte loves.

“He is a player that is on Tottenham’s list. He would be the perfect signing for Tottenham but as of now, from what I’m told, Inter are still waiting to see if there will be an official proposal from Tottenham.

“So the two clubs, as of today, are not in negotiations. Inter are still waiting to see what happens, what kind of proposal there will be for Bastoni. The expectations here around Inter is they hope Alessandro will not leave, but it depends on the proposal.

“They are waiting to see understand much Tottenham are open to spending on him, so let’s see. At the moment we are not at the advanced stages of the negotiation, but for sure he is a player on the list.”

Bastoni featured heavily for Conte at Inter as they romped to the Serie A title in the 2020-21 campaign. He made 44 appearances in all competitions this term as the Nerazzurri came runners-up to rivals AC Milan (Transfermarkt).

Negotiations will be pretty lengthy when it comes to a player valued so highly, so it is likely this will rumble on throughout the summer.

Spurs need to consider their proposal carefully before they submit it as they obviously don’t want to over-exert themselves, but they have a ballpark figure in terms of a valuation.
