Fabrizio Romano has taken to social media to reveal that Tottenham will make a decision on who replaces Hugo Lloris once they have a director of football in place.

Lloris’ current contract at Tottenham runs until 2024 but multiple outlets have indicated over the last few weeks that the Spurs captain could be on his way out this summer (Evening Standard).

The Athletic reported last week that Spurs want to sign a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at his feet, with David Raya being one of the names at the top of the club’s wishlist.

The outlet added that while the Lilywhites would prefer Lloris to remain at the club next season, the Frenchman would not want to be an understudy and already has several offers on the table, including a lucrative one from Saudi Arabia.

Romano has now become the latest journalist to suggest that the 36-year-old’s time in North London is expected to come to an end this summer.

The journalist also named Raya as one of the goalkeepers on Tottenham’s wishlist but remarked that the decision on who to pursue will only be made after a sporting director comes through the door.

Tottenham either have the option of signing a young goalkeeper like Gavin Bazunu, who can be eased into the number-one role in place of Lloris over the course of the next season, or they could sign an experienced option like Raya, in which case their captain will likely depart this summer.

The decision will probably be left to the new head coach and sporting director.
