Fabrizio Romano provides update on Tottenham’s summer striker plans

Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign at least one more top-class forward this summer after deciding to extend Timo Werner’s loan spell at the club.

Ange Postecoglou wants another attacker this summer

There have been some mixed reports over the last week regarding Spurs’ plans to strengthen their forward line this summer.

A few days ago, The Athletic claimed that Ange Postecoglou’s men are prioritising signing a versatile forward, who can play as a number nine as well as out wide.

The report suggested that any potential move for an out-and-out centre-forward could depend on whether Richarlison departs the club this summer.

However, GiveMeSport subsequently asserted that Tottenham do want to add a number nine to their squad and have now formed a five-man shortlist for the role.

The report revealed that the list consists of Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres.

Spurs want another top-class forward – Fabrizio Romano

When Romano was asked what Tottenham’s plans with respect to their frontline, he has now told GiveMeSport: “Tottenham want to add one more player. Timo Werner, obviously, will stay on loan, but they will look at some options. So let’s see what they will do in terms of a winger or maybe a striker.

“There is still an internal discussion with Ange Postecoglou on that with several players being considered. But for sure, Tottenham want to add at least one more player in an offensive position after Timo Werner.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Richarlison does end up staying (which I personally think is quite likely), there is only room for one more forward in the squad.

However, whoever Spurs get needs to be a game-changing signing who can get 15-20 goals if we are to harbour hopes of competing with the likes of Man City next season.

Heung-min Son is far better suited to operating off the left and with Richarlison’s injury track record, we need a proven goalscorer to lead the line.
