Fabrizio Romano reports what he knows about Spurs Pedro Porro situation

Fabrizio Romano has named Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro as Tottenham Hotspur’s top target in their search for a new right wing-back, but claims a move may not come to fruition until the summer.

It is common knowledge that Antonio Conte is not satisfied with his options at right wing-back and is keen to bring in a new player to solve the problem area in his Tottenham squad (90 Min).

The Daily Star recently reported Spurs were looking to sign Porro for £35 million, but Sky Sports later claimed the North London club were reconsidering after being told they must meet the £40 million release clause in the player’s contract.

Apparently, negotiations are ongoing between Spurs and Sporting, with the former attempting to find a way around the release clause to strike a cheaper deal for the 23-year-old (AS).

Porro has been in fine form for Sporting this term, with two goals and ten assists to his name in 21 appearances (Transfermarkt). The Spaniard has been putting in the kind of displays that have led to many Spurs fans crying out for him to be brought to the club.

However, the stumbling block in the negotiations may mean we have to wait until the summer to see Porro holding up a Tottenham shirt, according to Romano.

He tweeted: “Understand Pedro Porro is top of the list for Tottenham as new right back. Spurs will try to sign Porro as player would be keen on the move. It’s difficult deal in January as Sporting have been very clear: €45m release clause or no way. Stance could change in June.”

If we have to wait until the summer to sign Pedro Porro, then so be it. I’ll be honest, I think we should just pay the release fee and make the move happen now, but he is the kind of player that would be worth the wait if necessary.
