Fabrizio Romano reveals 21-year-old has been on Spurs wishlist for ‘many months’

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to keep a close eye on Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence.

Antonio Conte’s men reportedly saw a £12m offer for Spence knocked back by Middlesbrough at the end of the January transfer window (90min).

The likes of Liverpool and Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the 21-year-old, who has impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest this term (Northern Echo).

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed on Monday that Bayern Munich are also interested in Spence and the Bundesliga giants plan to hold talks regarding his signing this month.

This has now been backed up by Romano, who said on the latest episode of the Here We Go Podcast (starting at 1:19) that the Boro starlet remains at the top of Bayern’s wishlist.

The journalist revealed that Julian Nagelsmann’s side are in contact regarding a possible deal for the Championship right-back but added that no deal had been agreed between the parties as of yet.

Romano also mentioned that Spence has been on Spurs’ list for ‘many months’ but the North London club are not making any progress in the deal at the moment.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be surprised if Spurs got involved in the race for Spence, given the amount of interest the 21-year-old is generating. The Boro starlet is likely to be just one of many right-back options on Paratici’s radar and I do not see us getting involved in a bidding war for him.
