Fabrizio Romano reveals buy-option in Djed Spence’s loan move to Genoa

While Spurs fans are getting excited about the prospect of the impending arrival of Radu Dragusin at the club, there is also the small matter of Djed Spence heading to Genoa as part of that deal. Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed the key details of that arrangement.

It is looking like a case of one desperately needed player in, and one outcast heading out of the club for Spurs today. The protracted saga surrounding the signing of Radu Dragusin is nearing an end, and Djed Spence will be departing the club, too.

Dragusin has been pursued by Spurs for around a month now, as the club looks to reinforce the central defensive area. The player is on his way to London as we speak to complete a medical ahead of the switch (Gianluca Di Marzio).

Earlier this week, it emerged that Djed Spence, who recently had his loan spell with Leeds United cut short, would be used as a makeweight in the deal. Today, it has been all but confirmed that the 23-year-old will join Genoa on loan until the end of the season.

Djed Spence loan deal details emerge

Fabrizio Romano has all the details on the agreement, including who will pay Spence’s wage, and how much Genoa could pay to make the switch permanent.

He tweeted: “Djed Spence will join Genoa on loan deal from Spurs… but it will include buy option clause. Understand it’s not mandatory and it will be in the region of €10m — up to Genoa in June. Tottenham will pay Spence’s full salary as part of Dragusin deal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is so frustrating to see the talent of Djed Spence seemingly go to waste. He would flourish in Ange Postecoglou’s system, but there must be a deeper issue at play here. I just wish we knew about this before we wasted money on him last year.
