Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham offered Serge Aurier as part of swap deal for Barcelona right-back Emerson Royal, but have seen their proposal rejected by the La Liga side.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have reportedly been on the lookout to bring an additional right-back into the team this summer, with Aurier seemingly on his way out of north London.
It has been reported that the Ivorian has attracted interest from reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille, with the defender taking to social media this week in what appeared to be an attempt to distance himself from the speculation by posting a story on his Instagram story account to reinforce his loyalty to former side RC Lens, who are Lille’s rivals.
Spurs have currently deployed a right-sided tandem of Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty in their opening Premier League and Europa Conference League fixtures this season.
The club are actively trying to move Aurier on, and according to Italian journalist Romano, Spurs have offered him to Barcelona as a like-for-like swap for Brazilian international Emerson.
The Telegraph recently revealed Spurs were keen on the Barcelona right-back, and could shape up to make a potential move before the end of the transfer window.
According to Romano, Spurs have seen their proposal for Emerson turned down by the Catalan giants, who are in our view are likely to be holding out for a monetary value given their noted financial struggles this summer.

It seems as if Spurs’ director of football Fabio Paratici is keen to reshape the defence, which has been in desperate need of a refresh for a while now. Emerson would certainly be a coup for Spurs, but it is slightly cheeky for Paratici to offer Aurier to Barcelona, who is proving to be rather difficult to shift this summer.
