Fabrizio Romano reveals Everton ‘are confident’ of signing Spurs-linked winger

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Everton are confident of completing the signing of Porto winger Luis Diaz, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham over the last few days.

With just a few days left to go until the transfer window, Nuno Espirito Santo still seems intent on bolstering the wide areas, with the likes of Adama Traore and Mikkel Damsgaard being liked with the club over the last few weeks.

Diaz, who was one of the standout players in this summer’s Copa America, is another wide player who is rumoured to be on the North London club’s radar.

Antena2 reported a few days ago that Tottenham were keen on snapping up the Colombian international, who registered 11 goals and six assists in all competitions for Porto last season.

However, if Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Diaz is likely to be on his way to Goodison Park, with Everton seeing the 24-year-old as a priority signing.

The journalist added that James Rodriguez is expected to move to Porto as a part of the deal, subject to personal terms.

With a deal for Traore also seeming like it is now off, it looks unlikely that we are going to strengthen the wide areas before the window slams shut on Tuesday.

I suspect Nuno will not be overly displeased going into the season with Bergwijn, Lucas, Son and Gil as his wide options, although based on how Gil was used on Thursday, it does seem like the Spurs boss sees the Spaniard being more effective centrally.
