Fabrizio Romano reveals if Lukaku is expected to start against Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Romelu Lukaku is hopeful of starting against Tottenham tomorrow evening after having talks with Thomas Tuchel.

Lukaku gave an explosive interview last week in which the Chelsea striker stated that he was not happy with the system Tuchel is employing and admitted that he wants to return to Inter Milan during his prime years.

The 28-year-old was subsequently left out of the matchday squad for the Blues’ 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday, with Tuchel admitting that he will have further talks with the Belgian on Monday.

Reports subsequently emerged suggesting that Lukaku could reunite with Antonio Conte at Tottenham after he burned his bridges at Chelsea.

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that the centre-forward could return to the starting lineup for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Spurs.

The journalist also added that the Chelsea board have no intention of letting the former Inter Milan striker leave in January.

This could work to Tottenham’s disadvantage as Lukaku could be motivated to prove himself on the pitch following the reaction to his controversial interview. I expect Conte to ask Dier to man-mark Lukaku and make it clear to the centre-back not to allow the Belgian to turn and run at him.
