Fabrizio Romano reveals main promise Spurs made to Conte

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur promised Antonio Conte he would have a major say on new signings to get him to sign on the dotted line.

Since Conte was confirmed as the new Spurs head coach last week, there have been various reports suggesting that the North Londoners had promised the Italian a huge transfer war chest in January.

This claim has been contradicted by other outlets who claim that while Conte will have money to spend, Tottenham would have to sell a few players to raise funds for their targets.

In the latest video on his YouTube channel, Romano has now explained that Spurs’ assurance to Conte was less about the funds available and more about having an important say when it comes to the targets.

The journalist provided the example of how Conte wanted to sign Olivier Giroud at Inter Milan as a backup to Romelu Lukaku but the Nerrazuri board rejected the chance to do so as they considered the Frenchman to be too old.

This is said to have left Conte furious and the 52-year-old was allegedly keen to ensure that he does not get overruled similarly at Spurs.

Romano revealed that Fabio Paratici and Conte will ‘decide together’ on new signings in the upcoming windows.

Given the relationship Paratici and Conte have, one would think that they would see eye-to-eye as far as signings are concerned.

However, I would be surprised if Conte also did not seek assurances on a certain amount of funds being available over the next few transfer windows.
