Fabrizio Romano reveals position Paratici wants to strengthen next at Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Fabio Paratici will focus on strengthening the central midfield area at Tottenham in the near future.

Paratici had a busy first transfer window at Tottenham after being appointed as the club’s managing director of football operations over the summer.

The Italian managed to bring in Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal to strengthen the backline while the addition of the young and exciting, Bryan Gil beefed up the club’s attacking options.

Pierluigi Gollini also joined on a temporary deal from Atalanta, replacing Joe Hart as Hugo Lloris’ main understudy.

However, one position that the North Londoners failed to strengthen in the summer was the central midfield area.

Despite being heavily linked with the likes of AC Milan’s Franck Kessie and Sporting Lisbon Joao Palhinha, Metz starlet Pape Sarr was the only midfield addition that Tottenham made over the summer, with even the teenager being loaned back to the Ligue 1 club for the 2021/22 campaign.

Romano has now revealed that the central midfield area will be prioritised by Paratici and Steve Hitchen in January and next summer.

The journalist said on the Here We Go podcast (21/09/21): “They’re (Tottenham) always planning for the long term with Fabio Paratici. Let me say this, they will focus on the midfield.

“I don’t know if it will be in the January or the summer, but the next position they want to improve is the midfield.

“Let’s see what happens with Ndombele, if they find a solution, but they need to improve the midfield, so let’s see if January brings on an opportunity. Paratici and Hitchen will work on this in the coming months.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Another central midfielder and a striker should be Tottenham’s priority in the January transfer window. While some might feel that we are in need of another centre-back, with Dier, Romero, Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon, I believe Nuno has enough options to see us through till the end of the season.
