Fabrizio Romano reveals Spurs have not held any talks about midfielder

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have not held any talks with Leicester City regarding James Maddison so far this summer.

Spurs are thought to be on the lookout for a creative midfielder this summer (The Evening Standard), with Maddison said to be on the names on the North London club’s radar (GiveMeSport).

The 25-year-old, who registered 30 goal contributions across all competitions, has just two years left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt).

Journalist Graeme Bailey suggested on 90min Football’s YouTube channel this week that the Foxes may be open to offers for the England international as they need to bring in funds to pursue their transfer targets.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold stated on Tuesday that although Spurs have distanced themselves from the speculation linking them with Maddison, he would not rule out a move from the North London club if he became available.

However, according to Romano, Spurs have not made any advances toward Maddison so far in the transfer window.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “There is currently no negotiation between Tottenham and Leicester for Maddison; relations with his agents are excellent but so far the situation is quiet.

“Tottenham have already made a lot of quality signings, and are now only focused on selling Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Sergio Reguilon and many other players.

“For me, I think James Maddison deserves a top move, but we must also respect Leicester who cannot lose all their top players.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If reports over the last week or so are to be believed, Tottenham are now focused on moving their fringe players on and are exploring a potential deal for Zaniolo.

I personally do not think the interest in Zaniolo has anything to do with Conte’s desire to sign an attacking midfielder. However, spending big money on the Italian will likely restrict Spurs’ ability to make a big offer for the Leicester star.
