Fabrizio Romano reveals Spurs target is ‘getting closer’ to signing new contract

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Lautaro Martinez is now close to signing a new contract with Inter Milan.

Alasdair Gold revealed two weeks ago that Spurs had initially agreed on a €60m (£50.9m) fee for Martinez but the landscape changed following Romelu Lukaku’s move to Chelsea, with Inter no longer as desperate to raise funds.

Even though Martinez is allegedly keen to move to Spurs, the forward’s agent insisted last week that his client is ready to hold talks with the Serie A champions over a contract extension.

Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal, have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.

However, in what comes as a blow to Spurs’ pursuit of Martinez, Romano has now revealed that the striker is edging close to committing his future to the Nerazzurri.

The journalist reported that the Argentine’s entourage held positive discussions with the Inter hierarchy yesterday over a new deal. He added that the final details are expected to be hammered out in the coming weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion

It was always going to prove difficult for Spurs to get Martinez after Inter’s decision to sell Lukaku. Personally, I have always believed Vlahovic would be a better fit than the Argentine for what we need.

However, this has really put us in a difficult place regarding Kane as there are not too many options we could now go for if the 28-year-old leaves. So Levy might decide to keep hold of the striker irrespective of what City offer.
