Fabrizio Romano reveals Spurs tried to appoint director of football five years ago

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur attempted to recruit Fabio Paratici as their director of football five years ago.

Paratici, who was Juventus’ Chief Football Officer departed earlier this week after 11 years in the job where he also worked alongside Antonio Conte during his stint as the boss of the Old Lady between 2011 and 2014.

Antonio Conte has been described as the leading candidate to replace Jose Mourinho, with the Italian currently without a club following his exit from Inter Milan last month just a matter of weeks after guiding them to the Serie A title for the first time in eleven years (The Athletic).

Romano revealed that Paratici will decide whether to make the switch to North London shortly after an offer was made.

The prospect of having an experienced campaigner who has helped to deliver title after title is an attractive prospect to head up the sporting director role, rather than Steve Hitchen who is not exactly flavour of the month among Spurs fans.
