Fabrizio Romano reveals update on ‘important week’ in Tottenham Bergwijn talks

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Ajax are set to accelerate talks to sign Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn this week.

It seems only a matter of time before Bergwijn seals a move to Ajax this summer, with reports indicating last week that the Eredivisie giants will push ahead with a move for the Spurs star after Sebastian Haller joins Borussia Dortmund (Football Insider).

Dutch journalist Mike Verweij took to social media on Thursday to deny that Ajax have an agreement in place with Spurs for the Netherlands international.

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare subsequently stated that Antonio Conte’s men hope to bring in an attacker before they let the 24-year-old leave.

However, Romano believes this week could be pivotal in Bergwijn’s proposed move to the Johan Cruyff Arena. The journalist revealed that Ajax are ready to start fresh talks and that Tottenham are open to selling the winger.

The print edition of Algemeen Dagblad (27/06/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) reported today that Spurs and Ajax have agreed on a £21.55m fixed transfer fee, although the former still want to include add-ons.

If Spurs are now ready to sell Bergwijn, perhaps that is a sign that the North Londoners have an attacking signing in the pipeline. At this point, Richarlison seems like the one who is most likely to come to the club, particularly given Everton’s interest in Harry Winks.
