Fabrizio Romano reveals what happened after Spurs meeting with Erik ten Hag

Transfer expert and journalist, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Erik ten Hag did not turn down the Tottenham job this week.

It was announced this morning that Ajax had extended ten Hag’s contract by an extra year, keeping him at the club until 2023.

This came after Romano reported earlier in the week that Spurs had scheduled a meeting with the manager of the Dutch giants regarding the vacant Tottenham position.

After Jose Mourinho was sacked by Daniel Levy and co less than a week before the League Cup final, Ryan Mason was put in interim charge until the end of the season.

However, Alasdair Gold has claimed that Tottenham want a new permanent boss appointed before the end of the current campaign.

Romano has now revealed that Spurs held talks with Erik ten Hag in the past 48 hours before taking a step back once they realised Ajax’s intention to extend his contract.

He added that Tottenham decided to go for other managers after this meeting and that ten Hag was never actually offered the job.
