Fabrizio Romano reveals what he has heard about Spurs links with Atalanta star

Fabrizio Romano has said that he has not heard much information about Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Teun Koopmeiners but insisted that he expects Atalanta to drive a hard bargain for the midfielder.

Koopmeiners’s stock has risen substantially over the last 18 months, with the Atalanta star not only emerging as one of the consistent centre-midfielders on show in the Serie A but also becoming a vital cog in the middle of the park for the Dutch national side.

It was reported by Tuttosport a couple of days ago that a few clubs around Europe, including Spurs, are keeping a close eye on the 25-year-old’s progress.

In fact, it was asserted that Tottenham and Manchester United had ‘already knocked’ on the door for the former AZ Alkmaar star, who is allegedly valued by the Bergamo club at €60m (£51m).

Romano provides update on Koopmeiners and Spurs

Romano has now said that while he has not heard anything specifically of Tottenham’s interest in Koopmeiners, he confirmed that the midfielder is indeed highly sought after, with Juventus among those keen on the player.

However, the journalist warned that it would not be easy for any club to get a key player off Atalanta.

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Koopmeiners, he told CaughtOffside: “Teun Koopmeiners – There have been reports linking the Atalanta midfielder with Tottenham, but I’m not aware of anything concrete yet from Spurs.

“I’m aware of Juventus strong interest in Koopmeiners for the summer, but it’s never easy to negotiate with Atalanta. This could be one to watch for the summer, there’s nothing being negotiated in February or March.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham’s network of scouts might be keeping an eye on Koopmeiners as the club are likely to be in the market for a midfielder next summer, with both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp potentially on their way out.

However, it is too early to make predictions on who Spurs will go for as that decision will likely not be made by Postecoglou and the club’s recruitment department until April at the earliest.
