Amid interest from Tottenham, forward Memphis Depay has held talks with his current club FC Barcelona concerning his future, as per Fabrizio Romano’s daily Caught Offside column.

Spurs have already added depth to their attacking options with the signing of former Everton and Watford winger Richarlison on a five-year deal.

However, the Lilywhites are reportedly interested in adding 28-year-old Depay to their forward line, with Barca willing to part with their frontman should they receive a fee in the region of £17 million (Sport).

Depay, who has netted 13 times in 37 appearances for the Blaugrana, as per Transfermarkt, could be moved on this summer after the signing of new attackers Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha (Transfermarkt).

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has reportedly communicated to the Dutchman that if he is to remain at the Spotify Camp Nou then he would still be relied on (Fabrizio Romano).

Romano iterated Depay’s situation in his column: “There have been talks in recent days where Barcelona have communicated to Memphis Depay that Xavi would count on him if he stayed, but he would have little space in the rotations because there are so many new signings.

“Barca would be ready to let Depay leave on very favourable terms. The decision will be made by the player, Memphis will choose based on the offers.

“There is no proposal yet from Tottenham so far despite so many rumours – Depay has always been appreciated by Spurs director Fabio Paratici, but no proposals have been submitted so far.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think that £17 million would be a very fair price for a player of Depay’s quality. However, with his previous Premier League stint at Manchester United resulting in disappointment and a cut-price move to Lyon, as well as Spurs now looking strong in their forward options, a move would surprise me.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Lucas Moura will more than likely have to leave if Depay is brought in, we are so overloaded in the winger department, to be honest we really don’t need Depay unless he is simply an upgrade on Moura. Defence is where we should be concentrating.
