Fabrizio Romano reveals what he understands about Spurs and Rashford links

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that, to his knowledge, Tottenham Hotspur have not made any official offer for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

Italian super-agent Roberto De Fanti was the first to report on Spurs’ interest in Marcus Rashford, explaining earlier this week that the North London club held conversations with the forward’s representatives (CaughtOffside).

He explained, however, that Antonio Conte’s men no longer see the 24-year-old as a realistic target after Man Utd demanded £70m to £80m for the player.

The Times also backed up Spurs’ interest in Rashford but the report explained the Lilywhites’ approach was knocked back as they were told the England international would prefer to stay at Old Trafford and impress new boss Erik Ten Hag.

Romano has now insisted there have not been any negotiations between Tottenham and the Red Devils for Rashford this summer. He stated that the forward will speak to Ten Hag regarding his future soon.

When asked about the speculation linking the United star with Spurs, the journalist told CaughtOffside: “So far I am not aware of a Tottenham proposal for Marcus Rashford.

“He is certainly a player monitored by several clubs, but there is no negotiation with Manchester United.

“Also my understanding is that Rashford has not decided to leave the club and will soon speak directly with Ten Hag to understand his future, both his role in the team and also in contractual terms (he’s out of contract in June 2023 but with an option to extend for further season).

“Should Marcus remain at Man United, I am sure that an intelligent and talented manager like Ten Hag can help him to be back at top level.

“It could be good for him to stay because I think there’s a real chance he can develop his game and improve under the new manager.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite Rashford’s struggles this season, Man Utd were never going to let him go, particularly given that they are about to start a new era under Ten Hag.

However, if Spurs have shown interest in the 24-year-old, that suggests that the club are prepared to spend around £50m on a new forward. It will be interesting to see who we go for this summer.
