Fabrizio Romano reveals what he’s heard about Spurs and Memphis Depay

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Barcelona striker Memphis Depay is not a priority for Tottenham in the summer.

Depay has enjoyed a decent first season at Barca since his switch to the Camp Nou last summer, having found the back of the net ten times in 20 La Liga matches (Transfermarkt).

However, the centre-forward has not been a regular in the starting eleven since Xavi took over as head coach from Ronald Koeman.

Mundo Deportivo claimed recently the Netherlands international is of interest to several Premier League clubs, with Spurs currently the front-runners for the centre-forward’s signature.

The report added that Antonio Conte’s men were facing competition from the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli for the 28-year-old’s signature.

However, Football Insider subsequently denied this claim, reporting that the former Manchester United man is not one of the options on the North London club’s radar.

This has now been seconded by Romano, who stated that Spurs are happy with Dejan Kulusevski’s impact and are not discussing a move for Depay.

The journalist said on the Here We Go Podcast (29/03/22): “Yes, there are still some rumours about Memphis Depay, especially from Spain about Memphis Depay and Tottenham.

“What I am told is that there is no proposal from Tottenham, it’s something they’re not discussing now and it’s not a priority right now.

“Kulusevski will stay next season and he’s a player they’re super happy with, and Son is of course also part of the project. For Tottenham, Memphis Depay is not a priority, that is what I am told.”

Depay would fit the bill for what we need and I believe the 28-year-old would be a decent addition as long as he is content to be Kane’s backup.

However, it remains to be seen if he would swap being a squad player at Barca for being one at Spurs. The Dutchman might want to join a club where he would be the main man up front.
