Fabrizio Romano reveals when Fonseca will sign contract with Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Paulo Fonseca will sign a contract to be the next Tottenham manager before Wednesday.

It has been just short of two months since Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho and it looks as though the club are finally about to announce their next head coach.

The man who looks set to take over at N17 is Paulo Fonseca, who Roma recently decided to part company with in favour of a move for Mourinho.

Fonseca arrived at the Stadio Olimpico in 2019 with a fantastic reputation on the back of his impressive work at Shakhtar Donetsk.

While the 48-year-old had a solid first season in the Italian capital, Roma struggled for consistency last season and stumbled to a seventh-place finish.

Fonseca has previously spoken about his ambition to manage in the Premier League and despite his struggles at Rome, it looks like he is going to get that chance with Spurs.

Romano revealed that Tottenham’s new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, pushed for Fonseca and Daniel Levy approved the decision.

The journalist revealed that the former Roma boss will put pen to paper on a contract with Spurs within the next 48 hours.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fonseca is an underwhelming appointment, particularly after the links to the likes of Rodgers, Pochettino and Conte. However, that is not to say that the move cannot work.

Pochettino’s appointment in 2014 was not a particularly popular choice among Spurs fans, with many wanting Louis van Gaal at the time but the Argentine proved to be exactly what we needed. Let us hope that ends up being the case with Fonseca.
