Fabrizio Romano reveals when Spurs will offer Harry Kane a new contract

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham’s plan is to offer Harry Kane a new contract in the summer.

Kane is now back to his best under Antonio Conte after a slow start to the season but there continues to be uncertainty over the striker’s future as he will only have two years left on his contract at the end of the campaign (Transfermarkt).

The England captain is rumoured to be a target for both Manchester City (The Sun) and Manchester United (Mirror), while Newcastle United are also said to be dreaming of being able to snap up the 28-year-old (GiveMeSport).

Some reports over recent weeks have indicated that Kane wants assurances that Conte will be backed before committing his future to Spurs (The Sun).

Romano has now revealed that Kane is a big fan of the Italian’s methods and appreciates the winning mentality that he wants to bring to Tottenham.

The journalist told 888 Sport: “The first thing Antonio did as soon as he arrived at Tottenham training ground was to go and shake Harry Kane’s hand during his first training session as a new Spurs manager.

“A long dialogue in which Conte explained to Kane his vision, his ideas, the importance of the attackers in his game and the intention to build a 3-4-2-1 with Harry as a reference.

“Those close to Tottenham say that from that day an excellent relationship was born between Kane and the Italian manager: Harry is understood to be a big fan of Antonio Conte’s methods on and off the pitch.

“His training sessions are at the highest level for a collective improvement that Kane adores, his winning mentality in every single aspect of club management is really appreciated by the English striker.”

Romano also revealed Spurs will not offer a new contract to Kane until the end of the season and that the striker’s decision could be influenced by whether or not the Lilywhites qualify for the Champions League.

He added: “Tottenham’s intention is to offer Harry a new contract – which will likely boost Harry Kane net worth estimates – not in March or April but in the summer when he will make his choice about the future.

“Being able to play the Champions League will be a key factor, alongside the club’s plan of major investments to build a winning team ahead of the 2022/2023 season.

“Kane wants to win, so it will be up to Tottenham to convince him. But it is still too early for final decisions.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Kane is likely to sign a new contract with Spurs even if we somehow manage to sneak into the top four. So, the North London club will have to decide this summer whether they want to cash in on the striker and reinvest the money into the squad or whether they want to hold on to him for another year and potentially allow him to leave for a cut-price fee in 2023.
