Fabrizio Romano reveals whether Mourinho could poach Spurs star

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has asserted that there is no truth behind the rumours linking Eric Dier with a summer move to AS Roma.

Since Roma’s announcement that Jose Mourinho would be taking over at the end of the season, rumours have suggested that the former Spurs boss is plotting to swoop for several of the North Londoners’ players.

Dier, along with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Erik Lamela, have been linked with a move to the Stadio Olympico this summer but The Sun revealed earlier this week that Spurs will rebuff any approaches for the Englishman and the Dane.

If reports from Italy are to be believed, Mourinho is not prepared to take no for an answer in his pursuit of Dier, with the Giallorossi prepared to test Tottenham’s resolve to hold on to the 26-year-old.

However, Romano has now poured cold water on the speculation, labelling the rumour as ‘fake news’.

He said on the Here We Go podcast (as relayed by HITC): “It’s really funny, but it’s fake news about De Gea and Roma.

“There’s nothing, no negotiations and no talks, no contacts between David De Gea and Roma or Jose Mourinho.

“Also to clarify about Mourinho, there is nothing between Roma and Tottenham for Eric Dier, so that is fake news too.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no way that Tottenham would be prepared to sell Hojbjerg this summer despite his form dropping off over the last couple of months.

While some Spurs fans would seemingly be happy to see the back of Dier, I also cannot see Tottenham willing to let the centre-back leave unless there is a relatively big offer.

Lamela, who has just one year left on his contract, is the only out of the three I can see potentially reuniting with Mourinho at Rome.
