Fabrizio Romano says ‘nothing has been decided yet’ on Spurs man’s future

Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham Hotspur have not yet made a decision on Giovani Lo Celso’s future ahead of the January transfer window.

Over the last few weeks, multiple reports from Spain have indicated that Real Betis are set to reignite their interest in Lo Celso in January after failing to get a deal for him over the line in the summer (AS via Sport Witness).

It was even suggested by Fichajes that the Argentine has made up his mind to leave Spurs in January and despite generating plenty of interest, has his heart set on a return to Betis.

Lo Celso’s Tottenham future is still up in the air

Meanwhile, Football Insider claimed a couple of days ago that Tottenham are ready to offload the 27-year-old in the next transfer window since he only has a little over 18 months left on his current deal.

However, Romano has said that it is a little too early to jump to conclusions about Lo Celso, explaining that Ange Postecoglou was keen on keeping the midfielder at the club in the summer.

The journalist told CaughtOffside: “Ange Postecoglou wanted to keep Lo Celso at the Tottenham, so I’d wait before mentioning any January move for Gio. For sure if he’s not going to play in the next weeks and months, that could be a possibility. But nothing has been decided yet.”

While we all hope that Maddison can stay injury-free for the whole season, his fitness record over the last four or five years suggests that he is unlikely to do so.

So, Ange might indeed need to turn to Lo Celso later in the campaign. However, I do wonder if the Australian might prefer to play one of Johnson or Kulusevski in the number eight role if Maddison is unavailable.
