Fabrizio Romano says one target has been on Postecoglou’s wishlist ‘since day one’

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Ange Postecoglou made it clear to the Tottenham hierarchy a while ago that Conor Gallagher is one of his favourites, with the journalist suggesting that Spurs may finally pounce on the midfielder this summer.

Gallagher has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs right from last summer and as we near the transfer window, the speculation linking the 23-year-old with a switch across London is continuing to intensify.

Earlier this month, The Times suggested that amidst interest from Spurs and West Ham, Chelsea have decided they will sell their academy graduate before June 30.

This is because they need to raise over £100m by that date to ensure they do not breach the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Last week, The Sun suggested that the Lilywhites are well aware of the Blues’ predicament and want to get a deal for the England international over the line early in the window so that he can have a full pre-season under his belt.

Ange Postecoglou is desperate to sign Conor Gallagher

Romano has now revealed that Spurs are waiting for Chelsea’s final decision on Gallagher so that they can pounce on the midfielder.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Conor Gallagher remains on Tottenham’s shortlist. He’s a super-appreciated player at Spurs. He’s been on Ange Postecoglou’s list since day one and has always been a player he loves.

“So, I think Tottenham will be there if Chelsea decide to sell the player in the summer transfer window. But for sure, Gallagher remains a player that is appreciated by Tottenham, and they’re waiting for Chelsea’s final decision on that one.”

With Chelsea showing no inclination to offer Gallagher a new deal, it is now quite clear that the midfielder will be put up for sale this summer.

However, the only issue Tottenham might face is that the Blues might prefer to sell their academy graduate to a club other than the Lilywhites in order to avoid a backlash from their supporters.
