Fabrizio Romano says player shut down talks with all clubs apart from Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Luka Vuskovic decided that he only wanted to join Tottenham Hotspur as he felt the current project at the North London club, spearheaded by Ange Postecoglou, is the ideal fit for him.

Although Spurs have not officially confirmed the signing of Vuskovic, it has been widely reported over the last week that it is only a matter of time before the transfer is announced.

According to reports, Tottenham are expected to agree on a deal worth £12m with Hajduk Split, with the defender set to continue playing in the Croatian top flight until he turns 18 before moving to Hotspur Way in the summer of 2025 (Evening Standard).

The 16-year-old has previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle (Daily Mail) while it was asserted a couple of days ago by Calciomercato that the Lilywhites saw off competition from Man City, PSG and AC Milan to land the teenager.

Luka Vuskovic only wanted to join Tottenham

Romano has now revealed that Vuskovic had made up his mind to join Tottenham as soon as the Premier League side presented their project to the youngster.

The journalist said on the Here We Go podcast: “First of all, I think this is an important move for Tottenham.

“To see a player like Luka Vuskovic, wanted by many clubs around Europe, he was already wanted by many clubs; end of January, and beginning of February, Paris Saint-Germain were negotiating with Hajduk Split to sign Luka Vuskovic.

“Then, at the end of February, beginning of March, Manchester City presented a proposal, an official bid to sign Luka Vuskovic, so two super clubs approached the player, and there was one more English club that I can’t say the name now, but I will say very soon.”

“The player only wanted to go to Tottenham, because they presented an important project for his development, so it’s not just about the money or the badge, it’s also about the project.

“He feels that, at Tottenham, with Ange Postecoglou as manager, with the new ideas of Daniel Levy after the Harry Kane story closed an era for Tottenham, to see that project was crucial for Luka Vuskovic.

“He decided to accept Tottenham. He told Hajduk not to negotiate with any other club, because he only wanted to go to Tottenham, and now the deal is done and we wait for the medical tests. From what I’m hearing it’s going to take place next week.

“Next week, very soon, Vuskovic will complete medical tests as a new Tottenham player and then I can share the details of the deal in terms of money, but it’s not going be a small fee, it’s going to be an important fee for a 16-year-old boy, so it’s not going to be £1m or £2m, it’s going to be way more than this.”

I doubt Vuksovic would have been so keen on a switch to Spurs had Antonio Conte still been in charge. With Postecoglou at the helm, there is no doubt that we are a more attractive destination to up-and-coming youngsters as the Australian has demonstrated that he is more than willing to trust young talent.
