Fabrizio Romano says Spurs are interested in £47m defender – They scouted him this season

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba is on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Given Tottenham‘s defensive struggles this season, there is no doubt that reinforcements at the back will be one of the North London club’s priorities this summer.

In fact, Dan Kilpatrick suggested in his column in The Evening Standard last week that the Lilywhites could potentially pursue two central defenders during the transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, one of the options on Spurs’ radar is Edmond Tapsoba, who has emerged as one of the most consistent defenders in the Bundesliga over the last couple of years.

A large offer would be needed

The 24-year-old has three years left to run on his contract at the Deutsche Bank Park (Transfermarkt) and Romano has revealed that it would take an offer of around €50m-€55m (£43m-£47m) to convince Leverkusen to part ways with the defender.

The journalist stated that Spurs sent their scouts to Germany to watch the Burkina Faso international in action this season.

Romano told GiveMeSport about the centre-back: “I think it will be a tough race and situation because several clubs are interested.

“Also, Tottenham sent their scouts, and there is interest in Tapsoba.

“But also, because Bayer Leverkusen will only let him go for big money, more than €50m-€55m.”

Tapsoba would likely be one of many central defenders that Tottenham have on their list, with the final decision on their transfer targets likely to be made after a new head coach and sporting director are confirmed.

Spurs are a little short on homegrown numbers, which is why the likes of Marc Guehi, Max Kilman and Fikayo Tomori may also be attractive options for the North London club.
