Fabrizio Romano says Spurs may struggle to land 21-year-old this summer

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham could face quite a few roadblocks in their pursuit of Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori.

Calafiori’s stock has grown substantially since the start of the season, with the versatile defender having an exceptional debut season in Serie A since his switch to Basel this summer.

In fact, such has been the level of the 21-year-old’s displays that it will come as a shock if he does not make the Italy squad for the Euros.

Over the last couple of months, various outlets have suggested that Tottenham will face competition from a number of Italian clubs for the 21-year-old, with Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli all named as the youngster’s admirers (TuttoMercatoWeb).

Just two weeks ago, TuttoSport claimed that the Lilywhites are continuing to keep an eye on the youngster and look set to battle the Bianconeri for the player.

Spurs will find it hard to sign Riccardo Calafiori

Roamano has now also confirmed that Juve are keen on securing Calafiori, revealing that Massimiliano Allegri’s men have made the youngster their top target.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “At the moment in terms of names, I’m not aware of anything. Calafiori is a top target for Juventus, so I’m not sure it’s going to be easy for Tottenham.

“But they have good connections with Italian football, we know that. So let’s see about it – at the moment, it’s still not something concrete or advanced yet.”

Tottenham should not have any issues outbidding Juventus but the pull of Bianconeri cannot be discounted, particularly for a young, up-and-coming Italian player such as Calafiori.
